Talking About Bookish Pet Peeves on Follow Friday #29

Alright! Follow Friday is hosted by Parajunkee & Alison Can Read and is a way for book bloggers to get to know each other better. Just go to their pages and follow the directions, and you'll be making some new friends! Our featured bloggers are the following Fic Book Reviews & Lauren Gets Literal. Congrats to being featured this week! ^_^

Question: What is your biggest pet peeve when it comes to books? Maybe you don't like love triangles or thin plots? Tell us about it!

Biggest pet peeve. Well, I could probably go on forever about pet peeves in general... but when it comes to books, I'm going with stereotypical and overdone characters and situations. The girl who has no family because they all died, the girl who falls in love with a guy before he even breathes a word to her, the girl who has parents that are never home, the girl who can't choose between two guys, the girl who discovers her love interest has a deep dark secret but she's going to love him anyway even though he might kill her... I mean, YES, some of them work. It makes or breaks the story. But let's face it--this stuff is permeated in nearly every novel we see on the shelf these days. Thing is, I'll probably still read it. *sigh*

Happy Follow Friday my wonderful blogging friends! :)

  1. Girl with no family or a girl who instantly fall in love with a random guy are so typical, totally agree with you there! great answers!

  2. Love your answer. And I love that you're honest enough to admit that you'll still read those stereotypical books...I do, too! LOL Sometimes I sigh and shake my head and roll my eyes, but other times, it just works...the characters make it special, or the writing style makes it more real, or whatever.

  3. Hopping through. Totally with you on the stereotypes. They work the first time I read them but soon get old when I read 80 books that are the same.

  4. LOL "the girl who falls in love with a guy before he even breathes a word to her" i couldnt agree with you more, I had recently picked up a book same as this and i had to put it down, I also resisted the urge to run screaming around the house.

  9. I can see your point about stereotypical characters. There's nothing that sets them apart and it's hard to like a book for its uniqueness when the author pulls a stunt like that.

  14. Insta-love and parents who are never around are 2 of my pet peeves also. I completely agree with your entire list, but I have come to expect at least one of these things in every book. It's when too many of these plot devices are used in the same book that I really have a problem.
