Question Of The Moment: Do you ever reward yourself? (2)

In the middle of my massive room organizing slash cleaning, I found myself needing to do something fun. I wanted to keep reading my current book. At the time, it was Divergent, and OMG every time I picked it up I didn’t want to set it down. Yet I couldn’t stop my project. Especially since I’m actually relatively motivated to do it. And, trust me, when the motivation comes along, I need to jump on it before it is gone.

I started a system: Every time I completed a task, I rewarded myself with either a chapter or two in Divergent or a little bit of writing or reading a some of a magazine. But mostly the book reading. It was a strong motivational tool. And a necessary one because if I don’t keep up with my reading (due to either the room thing or my writing WIP), I’m going to fall behind. And who wants to fall behind on reading such good books?

How about you?

Ever have something you need to do when you really want to finish a book? Have you ever done a reward system to get yourself motivated to do something?

  1. I always reward myself with TV, which usually turns into a marathon of some kind which usually distracts me from what I'm doing. It's a slippery slope for me. Which is why I tend to just lock myself up until what I need to do is done otherwise I would never be able to con concentrate.

    1. Lol, sometimes I reward myself with TV but that ends up being a BAD thing because I can't stop watching! I lock myself up too. :)

  2. I do the same thing, read a chapter or two (or if the chapters are long 25 pages) and then do a chore. I use tv the same way on commercial breaks I have to get up and do a chore until the show comes back on. Its a great way to balance getting things done and enjoying yourself (although granted I get so wrapped up in a book I don't notice I have passed my chore mark LOL).

    1. Sometimes it's the only way I can finish things--doing one thing, then another, then back to the first, etc. My mind needs the break so that I don't get bored or annoyed. Lol. Yep, the book can sometimes preoccupy us and keep us from the chores, hehehe. But it's worth it!

  3. I don't reward myself in the same terms as you do. I mean I think I'd just die out of anticipation (of reading more of the book) that I won't be able to focus on the project. This system doesn't work for me.

Rewards to me is buying MORE books!

    1. YES! I do that too. When I accomplish certain big projects, I'll say to myself, "I really want this book, so maybe when I finish doing this annoying task, I'll buy it." And then I do. And I'm happy. :)
