Update Thursday #77

Welcome to Update Thursday, my own personal meme of sorts where I post an update of the goings on at my blog, with reading and writing. Feel free to borrow the idea from me for your own bookish musings.

The latest = I finally did it! I BROKE THE WORD COUNT! *throws confetti and tosses around balloons* It feels great to reach this goal. With the place I am in the story, it is approximately halfway according to my calculations. I'm shooting for 60,000 total for now, possibly 70,000, depending on which directions my characters decide to take me.

Yesterday, I woke up with a NEW STORY IDEA because of an amazing dream I was having. I kept thinking about it all day, working out details in my head (since sometimes in your dreams things happen without explanation and no rhyme or reason why it jumps from one scenario to the next and then there's this subplot that comes out of nowhere and it has nothing to do with the original plot), and so now we have an 8th story brewing. My poor brain. I actually had another interesting premise in a dream last night, and a couple nights before, but those two are just going down in the "someday I'll work this out but I need to focus on something else first" notebook of ideas.

Speaking of notebooks with writing ideas, I should share those with you guys sometime. You might get a kick out of it.

  2. Hooray for breaking your word count! *dances around in your confetti and balloons* Good for you. :-D Also, yay for new ideas! I love new ideas but sometimes I want to scream because there are so many ideas...but then I freak out when time goes by and I don't get any new ideas...I always think 'omg what if this is it and I don't get any new ideas ever?' lol Then I'm super relieved when a new idea DOES come, even though it either goes to the back burner or pushes another idea there in its place. Is it any wonder writers are crazy??

    1. Thanks! I think we'll always have ideas of some sort. I have so many that my notebooks are bursting at the seams. The problem with the ideas is that sometimes I can't expand on them the way I'd like. This is part of the reason why we're crazy--the ideas overwhelm us with their awesomeness and all we can do is think about them all the time. At least, that's how it has been for me lately. :P

    1. Thanks! It does, doesn't it? But it makes me feel good knowing there's always something new to go to next. :)

    2. It is nice to have a way to escape a current project when you get stuck. Sometimes working on something else will get the juices flowing again after a block.

    3. Exactly! I like being able to think about new characters and scenarios to break up the monotony of seeing the same words on the screen, lol. :P

  4. Yay! I get so excited when I reach my writing goals! You must be so happy! Dream ideas are the best! It's like your unconscious mind is working without you knowing it an it only pops up to give you ideas :)
