Scarlet Read-Along: Weekly Link Up--Week Two

Welcome to the Scarlet Read-Along!

Marie at Ramblings of a Daydreamer and I are proud to present this read-along event to you.

Today we are going to discuss what we thought during week two of reading Scarlet by A.C. Gaughen. Our third assignment in the read-along was to read the chapters six through nine. Please link up your post in the comments below so I can read and discuss the book with you too!

Week Two: Chapters 6-9...

SO I'm a bit late at posting this since I didn't have a chance to read the last chapter until last night at 11:00 pm (sorry about the delay!)... here's my thoughts for the week!!!

I got a nice little peek into Scarlet's softer side, which I knew was there from the beginning, plus more of her selflessness. There are pieces of Scarlet's past that are coming together to create a picture. There was also more learned about Robin and his past before he came back (to which I have a quote of the week from for next week). And a sneaky turn of events... that make me want to punch people in the face. It always burns me when people think they're safe in an unsafe environment.

Oh man... and then there's Robin and Scarlet... and John and Scarlet... Stupid love triangle!!! Argh!!! I can see that John has feelings for Scarlet, but there's something more to what there is between Robin and Scarlet. Something deeper. And um..... *swoons and passes out*... Yeah, he's gotten to me, heart and soul. <3

  1. You know what's funny? When I first heard about Scarlet and thought there might be a romance between her and Robin, I was like no no no no...having grown up watching the Disney version and being in love with Robin and Maid Marian, I thought there was no way I'd want Robin with anyone else...but almost immediately the little interactions between them made me swoon and root for them. Although I have to admit I do kind of like her and John too...again, I'm hopeless!

    1. Hehehehehe!!! I know, it's hard to be willing to give up your first pairing for a new one. But since it's a different telling of it, it works! :) I don't know what to think of John. He's sweet and all, but his fooling around with ladies sort of irks me. If you love Scarlet, you need to stop the fooling around. Lol. :P

    2. I'm trying to separate it completely in my mind, you know? Like justifying that it's ok to love Robin and Scarlet together because in another universe, he loves Marian lol. This is where retellings and the like are tricky because you have those people who want you to stick really close and if you go a little off course, they automatically hate it. Same as books that are turned into movies. I just try to enjoy stuff for what it is if that makes sense.

And you're right about John. I think maybe he sort of just all of a sudden REALLY realized Scar's a girl and is *seeing* her for the first time, you know? Like he'd be willing to change his womanizing ways for the love of a woman like Scarlet. It'll be interesting to see how it plays out.

I seriously love love love getting to talk about this with you guys! Writing reviews is fun because we get to talk about the books, but it can be a pretty one-sided discussion. I love getting to dig deeper and hear other opinions and maybe see things from a different perspective. You're a genius for thinking of reading this together. <3

    3. Lol, I think that would be the case for me if I was a shipper for a certain pairing and saw it in a different perspective, kinda like some of those Jane Austen retellings that obviously put the wrong characters together. I haven't read any of them, but I'm sure it would probably be irritating. :P

I think you're right, he probably is noticing it now. How could you not love a girl who is strong and a defender of good? It will be quite interesting. :)

I love it too!!! <3 It's so much fun to chat about the book. It makes it all the more enjoyable while I'm reading it, looking forward to discussing it with you guys! I'm glad this was the one we decided on. It has been great! :D

  2. Hi Jess! I missed Wednesday due to laptop problems but I'm back. You might be pleased to know that the Robin/Scarlet scenes have won me over and now I'm joining you on Team Robin. Seriously, I loved all the tender moments between them.

  3. I have to agree with Marie. I've always been a fan of Robin and Marian but now I'm curious about this Robin and Scarlet pairing. Not sure how I feel about the love triangle though!
