Here are the links if you're interested in signing up for either. Hopefully sign-ups won't be closed for the first one when this post goes up, but if they are, you can always sign up for the other one. ^_^

I started a new job at the beginning of the month. It has turned out to be a really great job. I spent the last nearly NINE years working in a retail pharmacy (three different ones) so to finally get a job where I can have not only my own desk but a cubicle AND a spinning chair? That's just awesome. I has been four full weeks today, and I'll be starting my regular schedule next week. EXCITING.

I've managed to keep up with all my TV shows. I guess that isn't a huge feat considering I only watch three or four anymore, but it sometimes feels like it. That's probably because I work full time and have to keep my place clean and am trying to finish writing my novella too. My TV shows are very distracting and they sometimes cause me to lose my focus. Which isn't that hard, considering I'm slightly ADD at times.

Hopefully everyone has had a great November and here's to a great December!!

Sometimes you have to lose yourself to find where you truly belong...

Most girls would kill to spend months traveling around Europe after college graduation with no responsibility, no parents, and no-limit credit cards. Kelsey Summers is no exception. She's having the time of her life . . . or that's what she keeps telling herself.

It's a lonely business trying to find out who you are, especially when you're afraid you won't like what you discover. No amount of drinking or dancing can chase away Kelsey's loneliness, but maybe Jackson Hunt can. After a few chance meetings, he convinces her to take a journey of adventure instead of alcohol. With each new city and experience, Kelsey's mind becomes a little clearer and her heart a little less hers. Jackson helps her unravel her own dreams and desires. But the more she learns about herself, the more Kelsey realizes how little she knows about Jackson.

My Thoughts:

After reading and LOVING Losing It, I knew I needed to get my hands on Finding It. When it showed up on Edelweiss I requested it right away. I dove in immediately and for seriousness, I could not stop reading it.

As I started it, I thought about how I wanted to smack Kelsey. The situation she was in, all I could think was how stupid she was. Enter Jackson, and I'm just enchanted by him. I'm not kidding. The chemistry between the two of them, it's new. There's attraction, but there's also hesitancy on both sides. I loved how this became an adventure with travel and experiencing new things. All I expected from this was a romantic tale, but what I got was romance AND a journey. And you guys know how much I love love love those stories. Once we get near the end, a secret is revealed and you're hopeful that it won't ruin the magic between Kelsey and Jackson.

Finding It took me on an adventure of love and life. I adored Kelsey and Jackson and everything they did and said. Kelsey grew and you grew with her. Cora Carmack, I swear, I don't know how she does it. Everything I read, I love, and I'm not going to stop reading her work. Ever.

It's hard finding beauty in the badlands of Washokey, Wyoming, but 14-year-old Grace Carpenter knows it's not her mother's pageant obsessions, or the cowboy dances adored by her small-town classmates. True beauty is wild-girl Mandarin Ramey: 17, shameless and utterly carefree. Grace would give anything to be like Mandarin.

When they're united for a project, they form an unlikely, explosive friendship, packed with nights spent skinny-dipping in the canal, liberating the town's animal-head trophies, and searching for someplace magic. Grace plays along when Mandarin suggests they run away together. Blame it on the crazy-making wildwinds plaguing their Badlands town.

Because all too soon, Grace discovers Mandarin's unique beauty hides a girl who's troubled, broken, and even dangerous. And no matter how hard Grace fights to keep the magic, no friendship can withstand betrayal.

My Thoughts:

When you read a synopsis like that, you know you're going to be taken on a journey. Those stories, to me, are amazing. A journey into a new perspective, a new take on life. That's what this one gives.

Grace is already to a point of frustration when Mandarin becomes part of her life. Grace is afraid of stepping out there, but Mandarin's carefree (and sometimes careless) spirit causes her to take a step. Grace is swept into a different world with Mandarin, one that takes her away from the world she once knew. While Mandarin has a new view on life, and a desire for something better outside Washokey, she's got this other side to her, one that is a little bit off-kilter. There's something dark about her, but at the same time you want to scoop her up because you know she's dark because of something. Grace tries to ignore it since she wants so much to be like Mandarin, but sometimes ignoring signs can have consequences.

Like Mandarin was very much in the style of Kirsten Hubbard--hard not to love. I could feel Grace's struggles of pleasing people and desiring to really live and go outside your box. It's a deep story with twists and it's just perfect in its imperfection.

LOREN HALE’S POV
I bridge the distance between us and my lips find hers. Her surprise stiffens her shoulders and freezes her arms, and I edge her mouth open, slipping my tongue inside. She wakes up, her hands swooping around my neck. I smile against her soft lips. Lily is like a raunchy Sleeping Beauty, reanimating from a deep-throated kiss.

Review: Becoming Bryn by Angela Carling

For months, Jesse has been envious of her twin sister Bryn and even has a crush on Bryn’s gorgeous, popular boyfriend, Quinton. When Jesse awakens from a coma to learn that everyone thinks she IS Bryn, the option of actually taking over her sister’s life is beyond tempting, but there’s a downside. She’d have to give up Ethan, her best friend and the only person she trusts. Could she actually live as Bryn for the rest of her life? And if her family and friends found out, would they ever forgive her?

My Thoughts:

The idea of this one, let me tell ya, is pretty intense. When I first picked it up, I'm not sure what it was that I was expecting, but when the moment comes where everyone thinks Jesse is Bryn... Yeah, that's when I discovered it was going to be different.

Jesse pretending to be Bryn is a mix of hope and heartbreak. At first, you are trying to wrap your head around why Jesse would WANT to be Bryn, and you sort of get it. But then, you see the flipside of things and you're really flustered and wishing she hadn't made such a poor choice. Unfortunately though for Jesse, and sometimes for us, when faced with a split second decision, it's so easy to be confused and just jump over the fence expecting greener grass. And while she had to discover it the hard way, she still made the best of her situation, especially considering all the circumstances involved.

Becoming Bryn went to places I didn't expect. You want to laugh and cry and swoon (yes, very much swooning indeed... there was an excellent kiss... not telling you with WHO though!) and not be able to put the book down because of it. Angela Carling knows how to hold together an intricate story and tell it in the best way possible.

As a college junior, Mindy Stanton has no interest in dating a freshman.

That is until Ben Whitmore shows up and serenades his way into her heart at the dorm social she’s running. And after hearing him sing, even Mindy can’t deny that he has a deep, sexy voice that makes her melt.

Even though Mindy makes it clear that she doesn’t date younger guys, Ben pursues her anyway. After all, he doesn’t seem like the typical college freshman, who is only interested in hooking up, partying until he can’t remember his name, or joining a frat. He’s a gentleman, a romantic, and definitely knows all the right things to say to sweep a girl off her feet.

So Mindy drops her guard. She allows herself to fall for him. Before she knows it, Ben is all she can think about. To her, he’s perfect.

But it doesn’t take Mindy long to discover that even the most perfect guys…

Have secrets.

My Thoughts:

All three of these novels sounded good, so it was hard for me to pick just one. This one intrigued me the most, maybe because of how Ben sounds in the synopsis. In any case, this was a very enjoyable story.

While the whole point of this story is very much instalove, I couldn't help but be drawn in to Mindy's life and how she views Ben. He's kind of undeniable when it comes to his sweetness and charm, I can see why it was hard for her to resist him. Especially the whole being serenaded thing. *swoon* Then she's given a smack to the face by Ben's secret, which, to be completely honest, I knew long before she knew. But there is more to the secret than anyone knows.

Rushing Into Love is a cute read. While I did pretty much predict how things would turn out, I still had fun enjoying the ride that led to the end. The reason why, I think, is because it is a shorter story, so the plot had to move faster. I might be checking out more of Ashelyn Drake's books in the near future because of this one.

The Russo family and Seattle, Washington, are no match for Claire Hart and her savvy knowledge of all things vampire-related. Thanks to her obsession with the Twilight series, if there is anyone who would know a vampire when she saw one, it's Claire. And she's positive totally hot Tony Russo is a vampire - she just has to prove it!

In this modern retelling of Jane Austen's Northanger Abbey, follow Claire's hilarious journey on her first summer adventure away from home, where she learns everything isn't what it seems, and that in some instances, reality is way better than anything she'd ever find in a book.

My Thoughts:

My two favorite Jane Austen stories are Persuasion first and Northanger Abbey second. I still need to read Northanger Abbey, but as far as the story goes, I just adore it. So, getting my hands on a retelling of it by Jenni James... yeah, that was a must.

The premise is engaging, and extremely hilarious. If I had read this back when I was still obsessed with Twilight, I probably would have been a lot more into the story. Claire is very funny though, it's hard not to like her, no matter how ridiculous she can be. I really loved how the author got the comparisons down, and how she absolutely surprised me with additional story lines.

All in all, Northanger Alibi was quite the read. While I did find some of it slightly annoying, I know it was because this is YA. It reads like YA and the characters are very YA, sometimes slightly Middle Grade. But due to how many stories got woven in, I found myself sucked into it since it piqued my interest. If you like slightly cheesy stories that feature an underlying Twilight-esque tale and/or Jane Austen retellings, this might be right up your alley.

Review: Stealing Parker by Miranda Kenneally

Title: Stealing Parker

Genre: New Adult Contemporary

Caution: May contain spoilers

Red-hot author Miranda Kenneally hits one out of the park in this return to Catching Jordan's Hundred Oaks High.

Parker Shelton pretty much has the perfect life. She’s on her way to becoming valedictorian at Hundred Oaks High, she’s made the all-star softball team, and she has plenty of friends. Then her mother’s scandal rocks their small town and suddenly no one will talk to her.

Now Parker wants a new life.

So she quits softball. Drops twenty pounds. And she figures why kiss one guy when she can kiss three? Or four. Why limit herself to high school boys when the majorly cute new baseball coach seems especially flirty?

But how far is too far before she loses herself completely?

My Thoughts:

After reading and loving Catching Jordan, it was pretty much necessary for me to keep reading Miranda Kenneally's novels. My high expectations were met for sure and I'm blown away by her ability to capture such candid stories in her words.

Parker is a girl with a lot going on, and this is just putting it LIGHTLY. The synopsis touches on the basic points, but there's so much more when you actually read it. This story had several threads strung throughout. Because of this, it was hard for me to know what (cough *more like WHO* cough) to root for since there is so much at play. With everything that Parker faced, she managed to prove to be a heroine to root for, even when she wasn't making the best choices.

Stealing Parker is definitely amazing. With all the personal opinions, religious views, and romantic ties that could create scandal. I did not expect most of it going in--it was a pleasant surprise though. I was quite happy with the way it all worked out in the end: the relationships renewed and ended. It felt very real and it was emotional. Like I said, Miranda Kenneally knows what she's doing.

Or so it would seem.

Inside the walls of her Upper East Side mansion, Kaitlyn is struggling. Book Blitz, Excerpt, AND Giveaway: Forty Days/Forty Nights by Stephanie Parent!

Welcome to the Forty Days/Forty Nights by Stephanie Parent Book Blitz!!

Forty Days (Neima's Ark #1)
Release Date: 02/10/13

Summary from Goodreads:

The entire village knows Neima’s grandfather is a madman. For years the old man has prophesied that a great flood is coming, a flood disastrous enough to blot out the entire earth. He’s even built an enormous ark that he claims will allow his family to survive the deluge. But no one believes the ravings of a lunatic…

…until the rain starts. And doesn’t stop. Soon sixteen-year-old Neima finds her entire world transformed, her life and those of the people she loves in peril. Trapped on the ark with her grandfather Noah, the rest of her family, and a noisy, filthy, and hungry assortment of wild animals, will Neima find a way to survive?

With lions, tigers, and bears oh my, elephants and flamingos too, along with rivalries and betrayals, a mysterious stowaway, and perhaps even an unexpected romance, FORTY DAYS is not your grandfather’s Noah’s Ark story.

FORTY DAYS is approximately 45000 words, the length of a shorter novel, and is the first installment in a two-part epic story. It does contain a cliffhanger ending. Readers looking for a traditional, religiously oriented version of the Noah’s Ark story should be warned that FORTY DAYS may not appeal to them. The novel will, however, appeal to lovers of apocalyptic fiction, historical fiction, and romance, as well as anyone who’s ever dreamed of having a baby elephant as a pet.

Forty Nights (Neima's Ark #2)
 by Stephanie Parent
Release Date: September 2013

Summary from Goodreads:
Neima, her family, and her grandfather Noah have found themselves trapped aboard an ark as a great flood destroys all life in the world. As their time aboard the ark lengthens, food begins to run out, wild animals grow restless, and family tensions become as much of a threat as the flood outside. In the second and final installment of Neima’s Ark, the stakes are higher, the conflicts are greater, and Neima finds herself facing a choice as impossible as the destruction all around her.

Forty Nights is a continuation of the story begun in Forty Days, and it’s recommended that you read Forty Days first for the best experience. Forty Nights does, however, contain a character guide to refresh readers’ memories. The Neima’s Ark series is a historical, feminist reimagining of the story of Noah’s Ark rather than a religiously oriented one, and the novels are best suited for readers who are comfortable with new interpretations of biblical stories.

PRAISE FOR
THE NEIMA’S ARK SERIES:

“Stephanie Parent takes a story I would have immediately shrugged off and turned it into a story with a surprising amount of reality and despite being religious based is not at all religious. Stephanie somehow created a paradox… When I think of a word to describe this story I think, layers. The tension is extremely layered. We get internal tension among the characters, tension relating to the animals, and tension from the storming raging outside. It’s not even supernatural elements, it’s all practical points like food and animal needs. The characters are also well defined and fleshed out.”
--Michelle, In Libris Veritas

The romance is slow and imperfect, but it's realistic and believable. I can honestly say that this love story is one of if not the best one I've read so far…a very thrilling read full of some great twists…[the ending] was everything I could have asked for and more, it was a perfect ending to an imperfectly perfect story.
--Zachary Flye, Zach’s YA Reviews

Excerpt:

If I kiss Jorin again, I’ll be making a promise. A promise I’m not sure I’m prepared to offer, much less keep. I turn my head away…

…and the want, the need rises inside me again, forcing aside all thoughts of being fair and reasonable. Just as before, when Father made his terrible confession, when Kenaan helped heal our dove, I’m overcome with the thought that everything is wrong, upside down, broken. The wanting consumes me, until I would do anything, anything to turn things right once again. Only now—now I know how to make the world whole, if only for a moment.

In one swift movement, I pivot back toward Jorin and press my lips to his. I’d swear the rain grows stronger as our mouths open, tongues meet, hands roam and clutch at each other’s arms and shoulders and necks. Water whirls around us, slams into us from all sides, forcing us closer and closer together until our edges dissolve and we become one thing, one seeking, reaching, desiring being. The rain can go on forever, can pelt us like stones, break us to pieces. I don’t care, so long as I can stay like this.
