Mitch Brooks exists day to day by keeping the world around him at arms length. There is no going back to the man he once was. That man was broken in a way there’s no fixing. Any hope outside of that is nothing but wishful thinking, until he meets her.

McKenzie Williams needed an escape. The last thing she needed was a scary beautiful man beating down her door in the middle of the night. Now, if only their paths would stop crossing, she could convince herself she didn’t feel a connection to him. Life has shown her the dreams she once held dear will never come true for her.

Mitch struggles to get past the walls he’s built around himself while McKenzie works to build hers brick by brick. When the outside world exposes the vulnerabilities in his façade she abandons her own fears to stand by him. Will she be the one to save him from the darkness within him, or will he forever be chasing daylight?

My Thoughts:

When I heard there was going to be a third book in the Carolina Days series, I was so excited. I adored books one and two (The Other Side of Someday and Yesterday's Half Truths), so I couldn't wait to read book three. McKenzie and Mitch are sort of amazing together. Their relationship progresses in the best way, sweetly and realistically. They're not expecting this, but they embrace it for what it is, despite their own personal setbacks. I appreciated how both McKenzie and Mitch weren't portrayed as perfect--they had their flaws and they each were damaged in their own way, but they didn't let the past bring them down. They helped each other up, and that's pretty wonderful in itself.

Chasing Daylight was an honest and romantic story. It was beautifully written, and Carey Heywood did an excellent job with all aspects of the story and the characters, including those of the four-legged kind. There were a few twists and turns near the end, but everything fit together. I couldn't have asked for anything more in a story and I'm so glad to have read the love story of McKenzie and Mitch.

She never thought it would go this far.

It started out so innocently, but now has taken on a life of its own. Problem is, Lindsay Palmer doesn't know how to stop. Even worse, she doesn't want to stop. Will the truth set her free, or have her lies already destroyed everything?

My Thoughts:

After devouring the first book in the Carolina Days series, I couldn't wait to read the next one. I had several review books that I needed to read when I decided I wanted to get a taste of this story. What happened instead was me spending an entire night finishing the book because I couldn't get enough of it.

Lindsay isn't the usual heroine. In fact, she's facing some very serious issues--ones that cause her to avoid people. When she and Luke first start talking, it's very innocent and friendly. As time goes by, though, Luke is drawn to Lindsay in a way he didn't realize or expect. She finds it difficult to open up to him, but he's not about to give up on her. He grows to care for her, and she's starting to let him in, which is something she hasn't been willing to do for a long time. Pretty soon, the truth starts to come out, and it's up to Lindsay to be strong like Luke knows she can be.

Yesterday's Half Truths was such a lovely, wonderful, beautiful, and gorgeous book. It's not a conventional romance by any means, but oh boy, was it an amazing romance. Carey Heywood blew me away with it--the emotions brought the feels so much I was nearly sobbing by the time I finished. And half of the crying wasn't even from sadness, it was from how happy the story made me. For crying out loud, I'm tearing up as I type this. Please, please, please keep these stories coming!

Review: Being Neighborly: a novella by Carey Heywood

Beau Hamilton spends his days working the family farm, leaving him no time to worry about finding a girlfriend. He wants to settle down and start a family, but his prospects aren’t looking up. He knows what he wants; a nice country girl, who doesn’t mind living on a farm, a girl nothing like his new neighbor Bethany.

Bethany screams “city” and it’s only a matter of time before she hightails it out of farmland and back to the land of coffee shops on every street corner. She’s not the type of girl who would be happy, living on a farm for the rest of her life.

Despite all the reasons he shouldn’t be, Beau finds himself drawn to her in ways even he can’t dismiss as only being neighborly.

My Thoughts:

After I read and adored The Other Side of Someday, I was itching for another Carey Heywood fix. When I saw she had this novella, I dove for it with both hands. I love love love novellas. It wasn't long before I started reading and kept on reading until the end.

Beau and Bethany are ADORABLE together. I enjoyed the beginnings of them--the whole getting to know you as a neighbor thing, then add in the attraction, and a first kiss... It was all so beautifully done. And who doesn't love a good old-fashioned sweet country boy?

Being Neighborly was the sweetest novella. I loved the romance, I loved the story, I loved how honest and real it was from start to finish. I don't think Carey Heywood could ever disappoint when it comes to writing books, no matter how short or long they are. Keep writing and I'll keep reading!

My Thoughts:

This book was my first taste of Carey Heywood and let me tell you, totally and completely worth it. I devoured this book and adored it the whole way. It was full of life and honest and romantic--and those are things more stories need to have because it makes them worthwhile.

Courtney is having a horrible day...and then she meets Clay. He is, in my opinion, the perfect kind of man because he's not some arrogant jerk. He's a real, honest-to-goodness gentleman who happens to have tattoos. Their relationship was lovely--it didn't jump straight to love, it slowly built from friendship into more. What's even more wonderful is that there were so many things happening with family and friends around them intertwining with the romance. Everything was brilliantly played, and you can't help but be enchanted by it all.

The Other Side of Someday was a beautiful story from start to finish. I loved the sweetness of the romance and how everything went so much deeper than just "love" for Courtney and Clay. This book had everything, and it made me want to read everything I can by Carey Heywood.

Excerpt

“I’m not sure how I feel about a first floor master,” Clay mumbles.

“It only seems logical to give Maggie her own space.” I raise the blinds in the kitchen window to peer into the backyard.

“Will you be okay being that far away from them if we have kids?”

I turn to face him, my mouth falling open. “Kids?”

His hands find my hips as his lips press to my cheek. “Yes, Ma’am. That is if you want to have my babies someday.”

I’m prepared to start making Clay’s babies on this countertop with our realtor as witness.

I coil my arms around his neck. “No first floor master then.”

I’m lucky I’m holding onto him because the smile he gives me would have knocked me on my ass otherwise. He presses a hard, fast kiss to my lips before pulling me toward the living room where our realtor, Darcy, is waiting.

“We’d like to eliminate any properties with a first floor master.”
