She’s trying to be good. He loves it when she’s bad.

Andrew West is done being the nice guy. After a marriage proposal gone wrong, he’s started over in a new city and he’s never risking his heart again.

Becca Collins is done being the bad girl. After quitting the band she played bass for, she’s going to prove to her family that she’s really changed.

When Becca’s dumped by her boyfriend and fired from her job on Christmas Eve, all seems lost, until she runs into a former one night stand—Andrew. To impress her parents, Becca convinces him to pretend to be her perfect boyfriend for their holiday dinner.

After Andrew shows Becca he’s all bad boy in the bedroom, neither wants to pretend anymore. But when Becca's invited to rejoin her band for a show and Andrew's forced to face his ex, they both wonder if they're ready to take a leap again—or if they're doomed to fail in life and love a second time.

My Thoughts:

After enjoying my first taste of Elizabeth Briggs's writing, I knew I would need to read more. When I heard the next book in the Chasing the Dream series was going to feature Andrew and Becca (first met, for me anyway, in More Than Comics), I was very intrigued. The two of them shared a moment together months ago, and promised to get in touch again...but they never did. Then they meet again while Becca is working a horrible job on Christmas Eve, which she loses before the night is over. She's been trying to make her parents proud of her, and this, along with her boyfriend dumping her, is just going to make things worse. So she begs Andrew to help her out by pretending to be the boyfriend who dumped her. Given their past passion, it becomes hard to resist only pretending. But will they be able to handle it when their past returns?

More Than Once is a romantic tale of learning what you truly want. Andrew isn't just another guy--he has emotions, and he cares a lot, which I really appreciated. And Becca is someone I can empathize with--wanting so much to do everything to make people happy, but never feeling like it's enough. The two of them together is a perfect combination. I must get my hands on the rest of this series!

They're friends online - but can they be more in real life?

Writer Tara McFadden has been friends with artist and drummer Hector Fernandez for years, long before his band became famous on reality TV – yet they’ve never met in person. They finally have a chance to connect offline when they’re both sent to Comic-Con to promote the graphic novel they collaborated on.

Hector's secretly been in love with Tara for as long as he can remember, and once they meet, she sees him in a new light. All the years of longing lead to an incredible night of passion after one of his concerts, but neither is sure if their online relationship can translate into a real life romance – or if this will ruin their friendship forever.

Over four crazy days at Comic-Con, Hector and Tara must decide if they want a future together. But when their story seems to be over, it’s up to Hector’s entire band to make sure he and Tara get their happy ending.

My Thoughts:

I've been wanting to read something by Elizabeth Briggs for awhile now. Several people I know and trust highly recommend her books, so I knew it would be well worth it... and wouldn't you know it, they were sooo right!

I fell for Hector and Tara's story almost immediately. Two online friends meeting in person for the first time? Sounds like a pretty awesome start to a romance. Hector has been in love with her for a long time, but she doesn't have those feelings about him until they actually meet in real life. You can sense it blossoming as you continue to read, and it draws you in more. Tara gets offered an opportunity of a lifetime--one that could keep her near Hector. But when Tara runs into her ex, it threatens to throw a wrench in her life and Hector's. Will they be able to figure out what's next?

More Than Comics is a sweet, romantic story! I loved the setting surrounding Comic-Con. I want to go there someday and now I really want to get there after reading this book. The love story between Hector and Tara is lovely and their chemistry is hot. And all the other characters intrigued me enough to make me want to get my hands on the rest of the books in this series. Definitely want to read more by Elizabeth Briggs.

(Chasing the Dream 0.5)
Publication date: October 28th 2014

Keyboardist Kyle Cross may look like a bad boy with his tattoos and piercings, but he’s really the good guy who’s always stuck fixing his band’s problems and never gets the girl. His band is competing in a college Battle of the Bands, but when their bassist doesn’t show, Kyle must track her down with the help of the person he least expects: his ex-girlfriend Alexis Monroe.

Kyle hasn’t seen Alexis since she dumped him in high school, and she’s dropped her preppy image for fiery red hair and a bold new attitude to match. With only hours before his band goes on stage, Kyle has to be a little bad if he wants to win both the Battle and the girl he’s never gotten over. But when their old problems resurface, the good guy might just get his heart broken all over again.

She rested her hand lightly on mine, like she wasn’t sure if I would pull away. “Kyle, it’s always been you.”

I missed this. The simple things, like holding her hand. The way she flipped her hair over her shoulder. The glint in her green eyes when she laughed at something I said. The freckles on her cute nose peeking out from under her makeup. The softness of her red lips, the delicate curve of her neck, the swell of her breasts…

I looked away, clearing my throat. “Alexis, what do you want from me?”

Her hand tightened around mine. “Three years ago, I made a huge mistake. It killed me to break up with you, and I’ve regretted it ever since. I should have tried to make it work long distance, but I messed up.” Her voice trembled, but she went on. “I know you’ll probably never forgive me for what I did, and I don’t blame you. All I want now is a second chance to try to make it up to you. To do something different this time. To prove I never stopped loving you.”

Her words woke up something within me—a memory of what we used to be and a spark of hope for what we might be again. “I am happy to see you,” I admitted, referring to what she’d said in the car. “But why should I believe anything will be different this time?”

She raised her free hand to my cheek. “Because I’ve changed. I’m not afraid to be who I am anymore. I’m not afraid to fight for what I want. Who I want.”

I wanted, more than anything, to believe her. I leaned into her touch, staring at the girl I had always loved, who said she still loved me. I didn’t take my eyes off her as she trailed her fingers down, along my stubble, tracing my jaw. Her touch was soft but direct, like she was exploring the changes in my face since she’d last seen me. I held completely still. I didn’t blink. I didn’t breathe. If I moved, I’d break the spell over both of us.

Her fingers skimmed down my neck, and she laid her hand against my chest, digging her fingers into my Joy Division T-shirt where it said, Love Will Tear Us Apart. She was already so close, her thigh pressed against mine in the tiny booth, her strawberry-and-spice scent tickling my nose with each breath. Being with her again was so familiar, so comfortable, so right. I couldn’t stop myself from moving closer, resting my hand on the curve of her shoulder, lowering my head to hers. I closed my eyes, savoring that instant before our mouths met, before everything changed between us and there was no going back.
