Song of the Moment:
"Arrow Through Me" by Wings

Although I'm not a huge Beatles fan, I have adored Paul McCartney and Wings for a long time. Maybe it's because I have a stronger attachment to 70's and 80's music, I don't know. In any case, this song used to get played over and over again. I still remember playing the LP on the record player and every time it finished, I'd go over and move the arm back to play it again. It's such a passionate song.

ENJOY!

Lyrics (chorus):

Oh baby you couldn't
Have done a worse thing to me
If you'd have taken an arrow
And run it right through me
It could have been
A finer fling
Flying in a righter direction
With no other thing
Featuring but love and affection
Come on get up
Get under way
And bring your love

Song of the Moment:
"Chalk Outline" by Three Days Grace

Three Days Grace is in my top ten favorite musical artists/groups of all time. Why? Um, maybe it's because they are so insanely awesome. Seriously though... you know that band that comes out on the scene at a pivotal point in your adolescence and on many occasions they are the go-to music of choice whether you're in a bad mood or a good mood? That's Three Days Grace for me. They debuted in 2003 when I was eighteen. Everything about them appeals to me--the lyrics, the music, the passion that comes from their pain as they express it to the world.

They just released a new album and, although I am usually SO FAR BEHIND on getting an album until months after the release, I got my hands on this within a month from the release. It arrived in the mail Thursday. I listened to it on the way to and from work. I am FREAKING ADDICTED to this album. It is the only thing I've listened to all weekend. Talk about coming out at a pivotal time, it was the perfect ALBUM of the moment for me. <3

ENJOY!

Lyrics (chorus):

You left me here like a chalk outline
On the sidewalk waiting for the rain to wash away, wash away
You keep coming back to the scene of the crime
But the dead can't speak and there's nothing left to say anyway
All you left behind is a chalk outline

Song of the Moment:
"We Come Running" by Youngblood Hawke

Yet another 'somebody posted this on Facebook and now I've got it in my head' kind of song. There isn't much of a story behind it this time. I heard it for the first time this last week, and I during that first listen, I was singing the chorus at the end of the song. It's just one of those songs that makes you feel good.

ENJOY!

~*~

Lyrics (chorus):

Headed for the open door
tell me what you're waiting for
look across the great divide
soon they're gunna hear
the sound, the sound, the sound
when we come running
never go where we belong
echoes in the dead of dawn
soon they're gunna know
the sound, the sound, the sound
when we come running

Song of the Moment:
"Dreaming Wide Awake" by Poets of the Fall

Not many people have heard of Poets of the Fall. A good friend of mine put a couple of their early songs on a mix CD for me a few years ago. Then he posted the video below on Facebook when the song was first released. I fell in love with this song. It was the perfect song of the moment back then, and it has not lost any of its meaning now. Poets of the Fall have AMAZING lyrics. Simply amazing. I could probably listen to this one for every single book I ever write in my life. It's so powerful and beautiful... And the video is actually pretty awesome in itself. And it is song of the moment NOW because my friend had to post it AGAIN on Facebook this week... and I've been listening to it nonstop... again. Lol.

ENJOY!

~*~

Lyrics (chorus):

Another place and time
Without a great divide
And we could be flying deadly high
I'll sell my soul to dream you wide awake
Another place and time
Without a warning sign
And we could be dying angels style
I'll sell my soul to dream you wide awake

I'll dream you, I'll dream you, I'll dream you wide awake

Song of the Moment:
"Somebody Told Me" by The Killers

This song... OMG, I swear, I used to be obsessed with it when it came out. I would dance around my room and belt out the lyrics. For some reason, a lyric popped into my head right before work the other day and I grabbed the CD as I went out the door and listened to it over and over all the way to work and back. I kept giggling every time it restarted. I'm crazy. It's just one of those songs that puts me in a good mood.

ENJOY!

Lyrics (chorus):

Well somebody told me
You had a boyfriend
Who looked like a girlfriend
That I had in February of last year
It's not confidential
I've got potential

Song of the Moment:
"Somebody That I Used To Know" by Gotye

While I have this tendency to be so behind on current music, but I happened to learn about this song one day... from my mom. She was flipping around on different TV stations and came across a show that was featuring this song and she didn't know who it was. I decided to pull up Pandora and pick a current music station to see if it would come up. It ended up being the FIRST SONG TO PULL UP. Yep, I was rolling on the floor at how ridiculously hilarious it was. Then I kept hearing this song... and when I started my new job last week, the radio station played it at least once during my shift. There's just something insanely perfect about this song. The emotion overload. It's just a really great song. So... I'm probably going to buy the CD now.

ENJOY!

~*~

Lyrics (chorus):

But you didn't have to cut me off
Make out like it never happened and that we were nothing
And I don't even need your love
But you treat me like a stranger and that feels so rough
No you didn't have to stoop so low
Have your friends collect your records and then change your number
I guess that I don't need that though
Now you're just somebody that I used to know

Song of the Moment:
"This Time (Klaas Remix)" by Dj Antoine

Years ago, I bought the CD David Waxman Presents Ultra Electro 2 for one song. Since I was obsessed with The OC at the time, I wanted the remix of the song "Hide and Seek" by Imogen Heap. The remix was okay, but that's all I really listened to on there. I pulled up the album on my iPod the other day to check out some of the other songs and discovered this gem. It actually has relevance, lyric-wise, on the story I'm writing (If Only We). And it makes me want to dance around the room.

ENJOY!

Song of the Moment:
"Product Of My Own Design" by Trapt

I've been a fan of Trapt since "Headstrong" arrived on the airwaves. It was the first true rock album I bought. This song is the last one on Someone In Control (their second full length album). The whole album, to me, is amazing. The lyrics throughout are mostly centered on others trying to control you (hence the album title) and trying to break free from it. Those are my FAVORITE kind of lyrics. Other favorites from Someone In Control are "Disconnected (Out Of Touch)", "Stand Up", and "Use Me To Use You". This is one of the albums I listen to while writing.

ENJOY!

Song of the Moment:
"Root Beer Rag" by Billy Joel

You may have been able to see from my 'about me' section that one of my favorite musical artists is Billy Joel. But you probably don't know the whole story. My love for Billy Joel spans the course of my whole life, but especially when I was sixteen. I kinda sorta became OBSESSED with him for the next year and a half. I got my hands on every album on CD, several LP's and 45's, the list goes on. I still own all of it. I may not be obsessed anymore, but I still have a soft spot for his music. The other day, I put on a concert DVD of his to listen to while writing. Um... can you say Jessica got distracted? Because I did! I kept looking over to watch certain parts and piano solos.

Note to self: Don't put on Billy Joel in concert while writing.

BUT I DIGRESS...

The following is an instrumental song he composed called "Root Beer Rag". This video contains him playing it LIVE, so you can see what an amazing talent he is on piano. Every time I watch it, I want to learn how to play this song.

ENJOY!

Song of the Moment:
"Gravity" by Sara Bareilles

I first heard this song on a Bones fan video a couple years ago (back when I was obsessed with Bones). The emotion conveyed in this song, lyrics especially, drums up all sorts of feelings in me. It's so full of heartbreak and love at the same time. I like to have this one on a playlist while I'm writing. It's like this underlying tapestry of emotion that weaves into my words as I type.

.
Lyrics (chorus):

Set me free, leave me be.
I don't want to fall another moment into your gravity.
Here I am and I stand so tall, just the way I'm supposed to be.
But you're on to me and all over me.
