When the most difficult decision of Laurie Baker’s life needed to be made, she took off for a weekend alone to weigh her pros and cons and consider all her options.

What she didn’t expect was to run face first into one more complication her life didn’t need.

Distracting, sexy, and British, Liam Parker offered Laurie exactly what she needed when she was desperate for attention.

One night of pleasure.

She wanted it.
She craved it.
She took it.

And when the sunlight dawned and the lusty haze of one night of passion disappeared and reality revealed itself…

Laurie returned home knowing that everything she had once believed, everything she had once loved and desired, was about to be tossed upside down and shaken in a way she could never imagine.

My Thoughts:

This review is going to be difficult to write. Not because I didn't like the book, because I LOVED the book, but because I feel like I need to review this AND the sequel at the same time. I read both in one night--it was just TOO FREAKING ADDICTING to stop. There's just so much to say regarding the book, and so many things that can almost be given away if you're not careful. But I feel like I don't really have much of a choice to give *some* of it away to explain how the book made me feel.

Laurie found out that her husband, James, cheated on her with her best friend. She's heartbroken, and with good reason. He wants to have her back, but she's reluctant and needs her space to figure out what she wants in the end. So, she goes away for the weekend for business, hoping to gain perspective. While she's there, she runs into Liam...literally. The attraction between the two is immediate, and their desires override the ability to think everything through.

Not everything is as it seems once morning arrives, and by the end of the weekend, Laurie finds out that she hasn't seen the last of Liam. On top of that discovery, she comes home to find James still fighting for her. Let me tell you... tears... just so many tears at that scene, I can't even right now thinking about it. As the story progresses with Laurie trying to figure out what's next for herself, your heart is dragged through every range of emotion known to man, and by the end? You're so torn up, you don't even know where to begin again.

Entice drew me in, kept me there, and held onto my emotions even after it was over. The story was powerful--so powerful that I still can't stop thinking about it. In fact, I want to read it all over again. S. Layne has created a gripping romance for the ages. Like I mentioned before, I had to read Embrace right after Entice--it was that good. Get your hands on this series NOW.

Review: Fringe Benefits by Sandy James

When life gets tough and love is hard to find, four friends take their troubles to lunch. High school teacher Danielle Bradshaw deserves a happily ever after, and the Ladies Who Lunch are determined to deliver Mr. Right.

HOT FOR TEACHER

As the new head of the English department, Dani doesn’t have much time for anything but lesson planning and literature. Romance—or even sex? Forget about it. But then the principal introduces her to last-minute hire Nate Ryan. Finding time to mentor a new teacher won’t be easy, especially when his incredible body and equally disarming charisma are enough to make her heart skip a beat . . .

Nate may be fresh out of school, but he’s confident in his teaching skills—and in his feelings for Dani. But while she’s everything he’s ever wanted, he knows his place on her staff—and his age—may be problematic for his sexy boss. How can he convince her to ignore the gossip mill currently in full swing in the teacher’s lounge and surrender to what’s meant to be?

My Thoughts:

I first heard about Sandy James on a friend's blog, so she was immediately on my radar and I knew I had to get my hands on something by her. This one intrigued me the most, so when I had the opportunity, I snatched it faster than you can blink. A romance between teachers? Um, sold!

When Dani and Nate meet, you can feel it in the air between them. I really liked how Dani is eight years older than Nate--something you don't see often in novels, the woman being older. It doesn't even hold Nate back from liking her. Their relationship builds slowly, partly due to the worry of working together and the reactions they would get, and partly because, well, they want this to last longer than just a fling. It's not an easy thing to do with the obstacles they're facing, but they both want it enough to give it their best, regardless of what tries to get in their way. It doesn't mean they don't have their troubled moments, because they do. What it all boils down to is whether they're willing to work through it to get to the happiness they could have on the other side.

Fringe Benefits was an honest-to-goodness sweetheart of a book. I loved the dynamic between Dani and Nate, loved watching them grow in their affections to one another. And even though things get a little crazy, the way they feel deep down never changes--it makes them want to keep going. Sandy James and The Ladies Who Lunch series are definitely a couple things to check out!

Sawyer Sterling needs a girlfriend. With the family cabin up for grabs, he's desperate to prove that he could be the guy to “pass it on.” Of course, Sawyer also has a tendency to treat relationships like a contagious stomach flu that should be avoided at all costs. Now he needs a girlfriend-for-hire. Someone he can trust. Someone he could never, ever fall for...

Someone like his best friend's sister.

Sawyer's offer is exactly what Olivia Morgan needs. After traveling around the world for the last five years, the promise of a job and free accommodations is heaven. And sure, maybe Sawyer's a super-hot, charming guy with dimples made for kissing, but he’s not willing to be the guy—or relationship—she needs.

All it takes is one hot hook-up before this little hoax gets blown all to hell...

My Thoughts:

I will never, ever, ever, ever get tired of the fake relationship trope. Like, EVER. I'm drawn to it, like it's the dessert tray. And I'm always happy by the time I finish reading the story. The Hookup Hoax is definitely up there on my favorite fake relationship books!

Sawyer wants the family cabin, but he needs to prove he's the right kind of person to give it to. Enter Olivia, his best friend's sister. Since she's been traveling and doing odd jobs, she doesn't really have much to add to her resume to get a job or apartment. Sawyer offers both to her, in exchange that she pretend to be his girlfriend. Seems easy enough, right? Not with the obvious sexual desire burning beneath the surface. And after one kiss--one that wasn't part of the deal--it's even more difficult to keep feelings hidden. When the person you're pretending to date is a person you're told you can't, it definitely causes friction. Will the two of them be able to come out unscathed?

The Hookup Hoax has it all--stolen kisses, steamy moments, true romance. I loved the focus on family, and the love that the family has for one another. And that, despite the obstacles, Sawyer and Olivia have a connection they can't deny. I'll definitely be checking out more by Heather Thurmeier.
