Welcome to Update Thursday, my own personal meme of sorts where I post an update of the goings on at my blog, with reading, with writing, and beyond. Feel free to borrow the idea from me for your own bookish musings.

Writing...
Well, I pretty much discussed my writing yesterday, so I'll talk about something I thought of last night at work. I was reading one of my current books and I noticed all the talk of names for different places. I realized that I don't have names picked out for places in my book, not to mention I haven't decided on a name for the town just yet. Lol. Sooo... I'm going to brainstorm for names for businesses and parks and schools and towns over the next week in between revising.
Otherwise...
My family is working on a vacation mid-May and I'm getting super anxious and excited for it. I am literally already packing in my mind. As I was going through my totes of summer clothes, I would pick up a tank top and think, "Ooh, this would be great to take for our vacation. So would this one!" I haven't been on a vacation in WAY too long. Part of my excitement is probably due to the stress of my job.
Speaking of my job, I'm considering looking for a new one. Pharmacy isn't what it used to be, neither is the procedure at my store, and the stress of it has become too much. I keep hearing that no matter where I go, there will be problems with procedures, employees, and stress. I have to say, the stress would be far less if I worked at a clothing or book store than at a pharmacy. The stories I could tell. Actually, I've considered writing one with the main character working as a pharmacy technician. It would be hilarious.
Until next time...

Congrats on 50 Updates! Oooh vacation *dreams* I could so use a vacation right now! Anywhere you go with a job will have stress and coworker issues, but sometimes just not as high.
ReplyDeleteThanks! Vacation, it always sounds good to me. :D Yeah, I expect to still have drama/stress, but even if it's slightly less stressful, I would be happier. :)
DeleteWhat's up with pharmacies being horrible places to work? You're the third blogger I know who has the same sentiments. Go out and spread your wings Jessica. I know all work places have the same kind of problems but at least in a book store there will be books and you'll already be an expert! As for the topic of names of places in books, I am as clueless as you are. I haven't thought up a name for places in my books either. In fact, I am horrible at names full stop. I usually go to the random name generator :) Some writer I am!
ReplyDeleteOh pharmacies... it boils down to we're the ones who deal with all the problems between insurances, doctors, and customers. Most customers these days are instantly angry when we can't immediately fix something. I had one guy yelling at me for five minutes over his copay, even though he paid the same price the previous month, he didn't believe me. Um, it says RIGHT HERE that you did. *sigh* I had to put him on hold and let the pharmacist talk to him, I was about to cry. The pharmaceutical industry is horrid too. The price of medications has skyrocketed and puts more people on edge when they have to pay too much.
DeleteRant over, lol. Spread my wings, eh? I like the sound of that! A book store would be epic. Even if I could just get into any smaller store, I would be content.
I spend hours coming up with the perfect names for characters, so to have to do the same with places is just exhausting to think about. I ended up going on Wikipedia and searching under different countries and states for city names. I came up with a few of them, but I need more. There's more to being a writer than coming up with names for places, Lan, so you shouldn't worry too much! ;)
I'm really impressed that you're always reading books that actually are going towards a challenge.
ReplyDeleteGood luck if you decide to work somewhere else. I know how frustrating a job can become and sometimes you just need a change.
Yeah, I signed up for too many! I was hoping I could do a step down a level on the one, but the rules say you can only step up a level. Bah! I'm having to adapt everything so that I can read some non-qualified books that will be released this year. :)
DeleteThanks! :) Oh yes, I do need a change. I thought I'd be with this job for awhile, but it's gotten to be too long.
