Many readers know the tale of Robin Hood, but they will be swept away by this new version full of action, secrets, and romance.

Posing as one of Robin Hood’s thieves to avoid the wrath of the evil Thief Taker Lord Gisbourne, Scarlet has kept her identity secret from all of Nottinghamshire. Only the Hood and his band know the truth: the agile thief posing as a whip of a boy is actually a fearless young woman with a secret past. Helping the people of Nottingham outwit the corrupt Sheriff of Nottingham could cost Scarlet her life as Gisbourne closes in.

It’s only her fierce loyalty to Robin—whose quick smiles and sharp temper have the rare power to unsettle her—that keeps Scarlet going and makes this fight worth dying for.

My Thoughts:

Now see here… tales of Robin Hood are cool enough to begin with, but this book… this book was awesome. I don’t think a more perfect book could have been made into a month long read-along.

Our protagonist, Scarlet was so deep and lovely. There was so much to her, and the pieces of the puzzle were added to page by page until we got the full picture. She was strong physically, and although scarred emotionally to some degree, she had a lot of heart. It was clearly seen the way she handled herself with others and the things she was willing to do to help everyone. Scarlet could really kick some butt! And this was straight down to the very end. You have got to love those heroines.

The rest of our cast of characters were absolutely amazing. Robin… oh, he was something. He was so caring and protective. SWOON to the tenth power. Although I wasn’t Team John, I still found him to be a pretty great friend to Scarlet. And Much, he was just great, so sweet. There was so much beauty to the relationship between Scarlet and Robin. I can hardly contain myself not to bust from the seams with happiness.

Scarlet is an astoundingly good book. This slightly different retelling was done so well. Extremely well. How it all came together in the end? Absolutely perfect. A.C. Gaughen could not have done a better job at writing this story. I highly, HIGHLY, recommend this to anyone who loves the story of Robin Hood, and even to those who don’t know much about it. It’s just too good to pass up. And if you didn't hear the good news about this book, please click this link and squee along with me. <3

My Rating:

Exceptional: Stay up until at least 1 AM

The Scarlet Read-Along Starts Today!

Welcome to the Scarlet Read-Along!

Marie at Ramblings of a Daydreamer and I are proud to present this read-along event to you. The two of us have been wanting to read the same book at the same time and discuss it together for awhile. After we both bought this book in September, it just seemed like the perfect choice. Then we realized how fun it would be to make it into an event and include other bloggers in on this. That way we can all read and discuss it together! Once the word got out about the Read-Along, the author of Scarlet herself, A.C. Gaughen, offered up bookmarks for the event. So, there is also a cool giveaway for anyone wanting to participate in this read-along.

We'll be using the hashtag #Scarlet on Twitter (Marie and I are @SweetMarie83 and @Jess_Sankiewicz) for read-along related posts and tweets.

If you stumble upon this read-along somewhere in the middle, feel free to still join in! It shouldn't take you too long to get caught up. Click this link to be taken to all the posts related to the event.

I am shamelessly addicted to staying up far too late (it feels like stealing time), diet coke (it burns so good), Scotland (stupid country stole my heart and won't give it back. Interpol has been ineffective for prosecution) and thieves (so I guess I'm not that mad at Scotland).

Interested in reading A.C. Gaughen's Scarlet along with us?

Marie and I have been wanting to do a read-along for awhile now... after we both purchased Scarlet by A.C. Gaughen in September, we knew this was the one we wanted to read for it!

Marie posted an official post on her blog about the read-along HERE. Now it's my turn to officially spread the word. We'll be starting the book on November 1st (which is a Thursday two weeks from tomorrow). There will be some fun posts over the course of the event about the book and Robin Hood and anything else we can come up with related to it.

AAANNNDDD...

When Marie tweeted about the official post for the read-along, A.C. Gaughen responded... and even offered us some bookmarks to give away! Talk about awesome. So... there will also be a GIVEAWAY!

Um... do you need any more incentive? Join in the fun!!!
