I'm Feeling Dorktastic Today...

...and I want to start reading the Sweet Valley Twins and Sweet Valley High series again. I went to a thrift store the other day and saw several SVH books on the shelf. I almost bought some. But at $1 per book, it was a little outrageous, considering you can probably get a lot of them off eBay for slightly cheaper, and probably better condition. The time before last that I went to the same thrift store, I bought a bunch of Sweet Valley University books... and I kinda regretted it. I never read any of the University books, and I've always been partial to the Twins and High since I read them when I was younger. (Anyone want some Sweet Valley University books for cheap? Lol.)

I was browsing on eBay and found a couple lots I may be interested in. My whole problem is that I need to be more... practical... when it comes to my book buying. I want the whole set of both series, of course, along with all The Baby Sitter's Club books (now, that one I was hugely obsessed with when I was 11). But I lack the space. Severely lack the space. Not to mention my mom and brother would have a fit if I started having boxes upon boxes of books coming in the mail (and the lady at the Post Office, she'd be freaking out, as if she doesn't already with me).

Why, oh, why did I sell off my Sweet Valley Twins, Sweet Valley High, and The Baby Sitter's Club books?!? Not that I really had that many (maybe 12-15 of SVT, 10 of SVH, and 35-40 of BSC). I'm glad I kept several books and toys from my childhood. It's just too bad that sometimes we reach a certain point that we drop a bunch of things we once loved in order to move on, or make some money to buy new stuff.

So, anyways. I think one of my next book goals will be to read both series all the way through. I never got to do that when I was a kid. I'll probably go to my library and see what books they have. Maybe I'll make this part of my next year's book goals. As if I don't already have a seemingly endless list of books to read. *sigh*

Does anyone else want to just jump back into their favorite childhood series and pretend you're a kid again? Also, on your Goodreads, have you added all of these types of books to your "read" section? That last part, I am working on.

Anyways, happy reading to everyone! ^_^

PS: "Dorktastic" the new word of the day, meaning to be a fantastic dork. Which probably just makes me more of a dork. ;)

Lost my BTT & Update Thursday #6

...and that makes me sad. BUT, I will move on... I noticed one comment on there, but couldn't respond to it... so here's my shout out to the lovely blogger (and I can't remember your name, I'm sorry!) who commented: Thanks a bunch for following back! :)

How about this... I'll write a couple things here that are kinda relevant from yesterday that I remember...

1. I was anxious for the latest Bones from last night... and after watching it... OMG. Wow. Finale next week.

2. Have a couple book orders on the way, including a few books for a future giveaway! Not sure when I'll host it, probably beginning of summer. I think I'd like to hit 100 followers, but if I don't I'll still host one sometime in June.

3. I love the Jessica Darling series. I missed the commentary on social and high school life.

My BTT: Yes, I read teen/YA novels, even though I'm 25. And I have the tendency to read kids books because I'm a firm believer in holding on to your childhood. I also read books a few grades ahead of me when I was in school too. :)

That's all I remember... it's so hot outside, I am tired! But I'm going to do my Follow Friday post in a minute here. Thank goodness we all survived the update! I was so happy to be able to log in fifteen minutes ago.

Oh, and by the way to LC's Adventures in Libraryland, I did have your button on my page yesterday prior to the "spring cleaning", and I'm putting it back up there today.

PS: It came back!!! Yay!!!

Slacker!

Yes, I am a slacker. I haven't finished any of the reviews I'm needing to do. But I have an excuse! Two excuses at least, actually three... #1: I've been reading a lot more than I used to, and it's so distracting. Not to mention easier to take along with me to work on slow Saturdays than a notebook to write down a review. #2: I started to write one of my book ideas. Well, I've been jotting down things more since the beginning of spring, but I've actually started to write out scenes, not just summaries of scenes. So, I've been sitting in front of my laptop for an hour or two per day with a few books surrounding me for advice on writing. #3: My iPod almost deleted half my songs Saturday night! I was frantically searching online for what to do, but thankfully, it was just a glitch. Kinda made me panic though. I don't have enough space on the laptop for backup music files. Now I'm planning on putting money aside to replace both my laptop and iPod before I get myself a Nook. Oh well.

Three more things... First, I started a Facebook page on my blog, but, if you're already following on here, it may seem redundant to follow on FB too... But it would still be cool! I just thought it would be nice for people without Blogger accounts to keep up to date on my book blog. There's a quick like link on the side of this page if you want to "like" my blog on Facebook. ^_^ Secondly, I'm thinking about how much I want to do a book giveaway. I've decided that once I hit a certain number of followers, then I'll host one. So... maybe the beginning of this summer? What do you guys think? As far as what books I'll give away... that's classified. ;) Trust me, they'll be good ones! And third, I'm thinking about starting a weekly meme here... I'll have to see if the idea in my mind has been done before though.

Until next time my fellow book lovers!

Dragging my feet

Let's just say that sums up my life as of late. Don't get me wrong, I love to read... sometimes I love to do other things... like catch up on season 5 of Futurama. (Netflix online rocks.) Sometimes I get obsessed, and time falls away from me. Working full time stinks too when you don't have enough time to read more than a couple pages on your lunch break. Thank goodness for days off because days off = I can stay up late = I can sleep in = I can stay up reading and sleep in! Jessica staying up late reading on days she has to work = very tired Jessica in the morning. I should know... I did that earlier this week. Lol.

Tomorrow you will hear the latest and greatest on Update Thursday #3. Until then, goodnight!

Coming up...

I was wondering what book I should review next. Then I finished Sisters In Sanity last night. Definitely worthy of being next. I originally planned on catching up with all the older books I've read, then add in some of the ones I've recently read. Considering I'll be reading 50 books this year, I may have to tweak it to one older book, then the current one I've just finished. Now to find some time this weekend to write out my next review...

I just joined a couple of book blog groups on Goodreads to connect with some fellow book bloggers/book blog lovers. Best thing I've done today. Already got some great followers and it hasn't even been an hour! :D Love it.

Hearts and hugs to all of you fellow book lovers! <3

2011 Reading Challenge

Just noticed while editing my profile on Goodreads that there's a 2011 Reading Challenge. You set your goal, you read! I added the widget to my blog here so everyone can see my progress. I decided to read 50 books. According to Goodreads, I only read 23 books last year. This year will be better. Don't forget to set a reading goal too!

A Loooooong Overdue Update

So many things in life can get in the way of blogging! But I wanted my fellow book lovers to know that I am here, and I am working on posting commentaries on my favorite books. For now though, I started a short list of the books I'm currently in the middle of reading for the first time. I am also re-reading Sloppy Firsts by Megan McCafferty (book 1 in a 5 book series, I never got to finish book 4, so I feel I need to educate myself on the whole thing from the beginning).

In between my Etsy shop, working full time, crocheting in some spare time, preparing for a friend's baby shower, and catching up on my favorite shows, you will see some posts about my favorite books.

It won't be long now.

Thoughts At One In The Morning: A Book Blog

For years I have been wanting to create a book blog to talk about the books I read. I kept putting it aside with all the other things going on in real life. Then I got back into reading books again. And at this moment, I want nothing more than to share with others my thoughts on these amazing, life changing, eye opening books. I will start by going through all the books in my personal library and posting my thoughts on each and every one of them.

A lot of the best books that I have read have been finished at one in the morning. I got so captivated by the story that I couldn't just go to bed at a decent hour and finish in the morning. These fictional stories were so powerful in their telling that it felt like I was experiencing their joys, their pain, their life myself. Those books--they are the best books. You walk away from them with a new view on everything: your friends, your family, your enemies, your boyfriends, your ex-boyfriends. You can pick them up a year from now and live them just the same. You want to get on your bike and ride around your neighborhood yelling out to everyone to read the book.

Books. I really love to read books. And I hope by this blog, I can share my love of books with everyone.

Thank you for reading this, and please come back for my soon to happen "book blogging".
