~*As for me...*~

Well then... I can't really think of much to report here... just plugging away at reading and writing and photographing and spending time with friends. OH! I did my annual "Jessica High by the 4th of July" picture. For those of you unfamiliar with this... I had this theory that the corn isn't "knee-high" by the 4th of July, but that it's "Jessica High", in other words, as tall as me. And, it always is. So I started to document it on film. Here's this year's photo:

Haha! I'm such a dork. It took me forever to find a spot I could TAKE a bloody picture because every road I drove down there was too much traffic. I finally found a road that was a dead end and nobody was on it the whole time, THANK GOD. Parked my car, set up the mini tripod on my car hood (because this is a one woman show now, folks), and took the picture. I'm wearing my new "Adventure" shirt. Oh, and if you're wondering, I'm 5'2", so, yeah--the corn be very tall! I look like a mini me next to it. As if I don't already feel short... lol. Good times.

And that's about it! I hope everyone's been having a great year, and a great summer so far!

Review: Seducing Mr. Right by Katee Robert

A sexy category romance from Entangled's Brazen imprint...

He’s not who she thinks, and he has seduction plans of his own…

Danielle Kastien is done with powerful men. After months of near-saintly behavior, she’s determined to use the company costume party to have her wicked way with every delicious inch of the sexy-but-sweet mail guy she’s been meeting for coffee. Though her costume is designed to send him into a haze of blind lust, Danielle quickly realizes Grayson is not the kind of man she can control.

Grayson Harper is used to having his way at work and in the bedroom. He’s dominant. Commanding. Obeyed. He’s been patiently biding his time with Danielle, enjoying spending time with someone who sees him as someone other than the CEO of Harper Industries. But before he can confess, he has Danielle right where he wants her. Where he’s wanted her since the day they met. And he’s in far too deep to risk his claim on the one woman who makes him hard with need...

My Thoughts:

You're all aware of my adoration for Katee Robert's stories. When I saw this novella and wanted to squeeze it in, I had high hopes. Of all her stories I've devoured, this wasn't my favorite, but I still enjoyed it.

Grayson thinks it's a good idea to not be completely honest with Danielle about who he really is, believing he can get to her easier than if she knew the truth. Although he's keeping this big secret, there's still a chemistry between them that is indeed real. And hot. I mean, what more could you expect from such an intense man?

Seducing Mr. Right is a nice and sexy novella. I mean, it's no Wrong Bed, Right Guy, but it's still Katee Robert and I thought it was great. The romance was different, but in a good way. It's a good, quick read when you need a romance fix.

Love is the Biggest Gamble of All . . .

Cocktail waitress Sophie Dalton doesn't exactly have a life plan. She's perfectly happy being everyone's favorite party girl. But when a Las Vegas bachelorette party goes awry and an uptight businessman mistakes Sophie for a prostitute . . . well, Sophie wonders if it's time to reevaluate her priorities. Swearing off her thigh-high boots for good, Sophie slinks back home with damaged pride-and a jackpot of a hangover.

Yet what happens in Vegas doesn't always stay there. On a trip to Seattle to open a new office, Grayson Wyatt meets his latest employee-who turns out to be the same woman he recently called a hooker. Wealthy and gorgeous, Gray is a man used to getting what he wants. And it doesn't take long to figure out that smart, sassy, sexy Sophie is everything he's been looking for. As their late nights at the office turn into hot morning-afters, they realize their Vegas misunderstanding may lead to the real thing . . .

My Thoughts:

I adored the Sex, Love & Stiletto series, so when I heard of this new series I was all, MUST HAVE NOW. I was ecstatic to get the opportunity to read this before the release, and I loved it so much, I bought it for my Nook so I could read it anytime. Yep, it was that good.

Sophie gets a wake up call when she first encounters Gray. It may have been a rude assumption on his part, but it got her to thinking about her life. When they meet again, under interesting circumstances, you begin to wonder exactly where it's going. One thing leads to another and Sophie is working alongside Gray. They have their heated little spats, which are quite amusing, but there's something deeper coming through. Something neither of them had a clue was coming since they met. And then there's that spark, the undeniable spark, that causes them both to want more.

Only With You is an adorable start to this new series. Sophie and Gray are the couple you wish you could be. Also, the side stories featuring two of the side characters are a compelling element (which will be continued in the second book, but let's not get ahead of ourselves, shall we?) and I was intrigued. Thank you Lauren Layne for never ceasing to produce amazing stories!

It's said the eyes are the windows to the soul, but that's a lie. They are snapshots of a time yet to come–the future of the person to which they belong.

Cyclop Blaine stands out in a crowd with his pale skin and mismatched eyes, but it’s his ability to see the future that really sets him apart. The unusual gift makes him an invaluable asset to Tyler, his adoptive father and leader of the Victory Street Gang. It also means Cyclop must hide what he can do from others. Once, a man he knew only as Master controlled him, using him for experiments. Cyclop has no desire to return to that life.

But he may have no choice. A man claiming ownership over him haunts his dreams and waking moments, leaving him no choice but to go back to the past he thought he had escaped. Cyclop must face this man, along with his past, if he wants to reveal his own future.

On my last birthday, I made one vow for the year. Live with no regrets. Eleven months have passed, though, and nothing has changed. I still sleep alone, spend my life working, and never move out of my comfort zone.

Then the loss of my dog throws my whole life out of orbit, and I end up in bed with a very hot and slightly-too-young veterinarian, who has recently made a vow of his own. Live with no strings. Josh is more than happy to help me with the things I’ve been afraid to try. Semi-public sex. Spanking. Anal sex. He’s a willing partner for everything I’ve wondered about, as long as I don’t demand more.

He’s serious about his no-strings philosophy. As serious as I am about living with no regrets. I can’t help but fall for him, even though I know better. So my biggest regret might be a broken heart.

My Thoughts:

As always, Claire Kent's stories pack a punch and they dive right into everything in the first few chapters. Who needs build-up? Not me! Not with this story. It starts off strong and then builds up even MORE as the story goes on.

Leslie is someone I feel I have a bond with, being determined to make changes, living with no regrets. Throw in Josh, this guy you can't help but be drawn to. You know there's something below the surface with him, and even on the surface he's amazing. Put these two together and you have something combustible... and that can be in the good way and the bad way. But like any great romance, there's a lot more to the story.

No Regrets is a brilliantly told story. I loved how the characters were in their mid-late 30s--it added a little more to the plot for me, more depth, more understanding. Claire Kent never ceases to amaze or weave intricate romances that go further than initial attraction, and the stories so realistic in every way. As always... gonna keep picking up her work!

Charlotte Lightwood has one season to find a husband or she'll be forced to marry her guardian's loathsome cousin. With no title or dowry, she doesn't have much hope of making a good match. Sebastian Wilkinson, the Earl of Marley, has been the most eligible bachelor on the marriage mart for more years than he cares to count and is very aware of his duty to marry a woman who will add to the wealth and stature of his title. Sebastian makes Charlotte an offer she can't refuse: he will pretend to court her to help her attract more suitors in exchange for her advice about which ladies he should pursue. As they work together, their mutual attraction grows. When they realize they just might be perfect for one another, they must decide whether to bow to the dictates of society or follow their hearts.

My Thoughts:

Muahaha! I love the "Let's pretend to be courting so that people will think things" that ends up leading to some mixed emotions. I remember when I started the story, I was like, "Must see where this goes." And I liked where it went.

Charlotte and Sebastian think they're just helping each other out, but it becomes so much more. It's almost like there needs to be a disclaimer when people do this: Never kiss. Because the second you do, well, the floodgates open and you're gonna go all in. Just... always... always with the kiss. I mean, if it were me in Charlotte's position... yeah... the kissing would have done me in too.

Just a Kiss is an adorable little historical novella. It keeps your interest and you can't stop feeling swoony. The romance is sweet and the characters make you cheer for them. I would definitely be interested in seeing what else Ally Broadfield has to offer in the world of romance.

A sexy category romance from Entangled's Brazen imprint...

The blind date from hell is about to get hotter…

Brianne Nave is never doing her friends a favor again. When they begged her to go on a blind date, she didn’t expect someone so perfectly gorgeous. She’s a mousy librarian—totally not in this man’s league. And judging by his odd reaction when she opens the door, he knows it, too.

Air Force Pararescuer Ryan Flannery avoids his hometown at all costs. He’s not thrilled about the date until he’s shocked silent by the prickly little librarian’s sweet curves and kissable lips…and her smart mouth. But then an argument leads to a kiss that spirals out of control. How can two people have so little chemistry outside the bedroom when they fit together so perfectly in it?

When their friends strand them in a cabin to "work things out," Bri’s not sure whether to kill him or put the industrial-sized box of condoms they find to use. Bottom line—Ryan’s career military and hates the tiny town she loves. He’ll leave, just like everyone else in her life. And if she’s foolish enough to give him her heart, he’ll take it with him.

My Thoughts:

Ever since I first laid eyes on this story, I can't help but think about it over and again. But could I expect any less from a Katee Robert novel? Nope. I have yet to pick one of hers up that I didn't enjoy.

I have a love for this trope--opposites who can't stop arguing that somehow can't keep their hands off each other. I think it's because of that thin line between love and hate. Ryan and Bri definitely had it, and when they kiss? *fans self* I mean, SERIOUSLY. It's almost like the anger fuels the passion and they just can't help themselves. And I just can't help finding the greatest amusement and joy during the moment when one turns into the other. Every. Single. Time.

When they have to really face the music, that's when things get real. They discover that they may not be as opposite as they thought... and that they may be able to actually get along. Of course, not everything's going to be perfect, but this is when they have to make a choice.

In Bed with Mr. Wrong was oh so right. I for absolute seriousness have picked up my Nook and read my favorite scenes in this book on several occasions. Most recently a couple days before writing this review. Why? Because there's just something about Ryan and Bri and the way that Katee Robert tells their story that makes you want to relive it. I'll always look forward to new Katee Robert books!

Excerpt:

I couldn’t stay on this park bench forever.

I hadn’t moved yet. I was still staring blindly at the dogs and people on the path when I noticed from the corner of my eye a man slowing down from a run and then jogging toward me.

Glancing over, I expected him to head past me toward the parking lot, but he seemed to be coming directly toward me.

When he got close, I realized it was Dr. Bennett.

He looked different than he had this morning. He wore a t-shirt and gym shorts, both wet with perspiration. His face and short brown hair were wet too. He’d obviously been running hard.

His eyes rested on me as he approached. Obviously, he’d recognized me. Before I’d recognized him.

“Hey,” he said, breathing heavily. “How are you doing?”

“Fine.”

It was a stupid question and a stupid answer, but that’s what people do. It was part of living in a civilized world. You made up nice-sounding lies and you said them to each other, instead of talking about how much the world sucked.

His face was flushed, and he was having trouble catching his breath. Bending at the waist, he rasped, “I better do a lap to cool down. I’ll be right back.”

“Okay.”

I had no idea why he’d bother coming back. We didn’t know each other. We had nothing to say to each other. And I wasn’t really in the mood for talking.

He’d killed my dog that morning, but I could hardly hold it against him.

He took a slow jog around the track and ended up back at the bench with a water bottle in his hand. His breathing was less ragged as he sat down beside me.

He didn’t say anything, and I felt a little strange. I didn’t know exactly what he expected from me. I certainly wasn’t going to cry on his shoulder, if that was what he was thinking.

So I just asked a casual question. “You’re done with your shift for the day?”

“Yeah. I got off at three.”

“Do you always come here to run afterwards?”

“Sometimes.” His vivid blue eyes rested on my face, searching or questioning or something. “It’s on the way home.”

“Have you lived in Lexington long?”

“I grew up here—in Versailles, actually. But I just moved back to the area.”

“Where were you before?”

“Vet school.”

“Oh.” I blinked, slightly surprised. I’d landed on his age as younger than me but still in his thirties, but he must be quite a bit younger if he was just out of vet school. “So you just got your degree?”

“Yeah.” As if he could see the surprise in my face, he added, “I started late. I didn’t go right after college.”

That made more sense. The conversation, as casual as it was, managed to distract me from thoughts of Polly, so I pursued it. “What were you doing before you went to vet school.”

He didn’t answer immediately, which prompted my curiosity. To take the edge off the silence, I said, “Bank robber? Computer hacker?”

He gave a low chuckle and smiled at me—not broadly, but it still transformed his face until he was almost unbearably attractive, even as sweaty as he was. “Nothing that exciting. I was in Chad.”

“Chad? In Africa?

“Yeah.”

“Wow.” My eyes widened in surprise. “What were you doing there?”

“International aid work. I started right after college and did it through most of my twenties. I was mostly in Chad and Sudan.”

“So what made you decide to be a vet instead?”

He gave a strange little shrug and looked away from me. “I couldn’t do it anymore. And animals…are different.”

I studied him, trying to read his expression, trying to interpret the paradoxically empty bitterness on his face. There was obviously more going on with him, but there was no reason to expect him to tell me.

There was no reason I needed to know.

“What do you do?” he asked, obviously trying to change the subject.

“Paralegal.”

“Who do you work for?”

We chatted for almost a half-hour, about my job, about how he was settling back into the area, about running—which I used to do, although not much recently.

Eventually, the perspiration had dried on his skin and his clothes, and we’d both faded into reflective silence.

I felt a little better—like I wasn’t on the verge of tears—but the thought of going home still filled my stomach with dread.

He’d been staring off in the distance, and he said without warning, “This morning was the first time I’ve had to do that.”

I glanced at him in surprise, realizing immediately what he was referring to. “Aren’t you supposed to be professional and distanced about the whole thing?”

“I guess. I thought I’d be able to keep the right perspective with animals, but it was harder than I thought. She seemed like a very sweet dog.”

I took a loud, ragged breath as emotion surged up. “She was.”

“I’m really sorry.”

“Thanks.” I took a few more breaths until I was in control again. “I really don’t want to go home.”

“Do you want to get a drink or something?”

I blinked. “Right now, you mean?”

“Yeah. Why not? I don’t want to go home either.”

I finally landed on an explanation for his mood. He seemed adrift, kind of lost, not emotional but torn in some way.

I wondered what he’d experienced in Chad. What it had done to him. Why he’d decided against working with people anymore.

Even yesterday, I would have said “no” to his invitation. For the last few months, I hadn’t done much of anything except go to work and take care of Polly. I hadn’t liked to leave her in the evenings.

It had been years since I’d had a drink with a guy I didn’t know, and this particular guy was too young for me anyway.

But it was just a drink. Nothing more. He wasn’t coming on to me. He was just being nice. And it would give me something to do with myself, other than go home to an apartment without Polly.

I felt a little better, talking to him. Like the world wasn’t about to pull me into some sort of black hole.

I remembered my vow, eleven months ago, on the day I’d turned thirty-eight.

I was supposed to be living with no regrets, and so far I hadn’t done a good job.

This would be something I wouldn’t have to regret.

“Okay,” I said. “Why not?”

WILDTEMPTATIONCOVER

Title: Wild Temptation (Wild, #1)
Release Date: August 18th, 2014
Author: Emma Hart
Book Description:
In this sexy new CALL series spin-off series by New York Times bestseller Emma Hart, enter the intense world of a no strings relationship and experience addiction like you never expected...

The moment I walked in to find Mr. Tall, Dark, Handsome, and Oh So British--my mind-blowing one night stand--as my photographer for the shoot that could change it all, I knew life was throwing me a curveball.

The moment he, Tyler Stone, walked into my best friend’s apartment, I knew that curveball was heading straight for my gut.

The hit comes in the form of a no-strings proposition… One that gives him utter control over my body.

If I surrender, that curveball is steadily en-route for a collision course with my heart.

He’s a sex addict. I’m a love addict.

This is temptation.

Tyler grabs my arm and tugs me into what looks like an office. He closes the door behind us and spins me into him. “You really are a feisty little thing, aren’t you?”

“Fuck you, asshole.” I glare up at him, shaking his hand from my arm and stepping back.

“Damn, Liv, why don’t you tell me how you really feel?” he says with a smirk.

“Why? So it can go right over your egotistically enlarged head?”

“I might consider it for a moment… Actually, on second thought, you’re right. I won’t pay any attention.”

“You are the most arrogant, self-entitled, patronizing bastard I’ve ever had the displeasure of meeting in my life,” I hiss anyway. “And before you mention the pleasure, because you inevitably will, you should know the displeasure far outweighs the measly amount of pleasure you’ve given me.”

Tyler’s eyes darken and he closes in on me, grabbing the back of my head and pulling me into him. His fingers thread through my hair and tug my head back so I’m looking at him, and, “Measly bit of pleasure? Didn't seem so small when you were screaming my name and begging for more.”

“Clearly you’ve never watched When Harry Met Sally. That movie taught a woman everything she needs to know about faking it.”

He presses his lips to mine in a crash of teeth and a tangle of tongue. He grips my hip and pulls me toward him forcefully, his grasp on my hair never easing as he sweeps his tongue through my mouth. The zinging tension of earlier is back, except this time it’s worse and it’s swirling around us and holding us together. Holding his mouth against mine, our bodies flush together.

My anger swiftly changes to desire at the feel of his teeth nibbling my bottom lip, and a whimper leaves me involuntarily when he pulls away.

“I don’t believe for a second you fake it, Liv.” He ghosts his nose along my jawline. “I can feel the realness of your reaction in your body. I saw it earlier—I felt it earlier. My fingers barely brushed your gorgeous arse and you moved away as if I’d run them along your pussy. Your body responds to me whether you want it to or not, and it does it so clearly. So obviously.”

“My body is a liar,” I breathe when he sucks on my earlobe lightly.

“Much like you.” His words are spoken again my skin with a gentle brush of his lips.

“My dislike of you is no lie, Tyler.”

“Well, your body didn’t get the memo, babe. Your body likes me. A fucking lot.”

Widowed two years ago, Rose is ready for a new relationship. She’s considered following her heart to look for the man she made love to for the first time but her ex’s frivolous lifestyle has kept her from finding Jack in Venice. When she opened her front door, he was the last person she expected. Now, as he stands on her doorstep Rose needs to decide whether to give the man who took her virginity a chance at a life together. While her mind tells her to be careful, her body longs to be taken by him once again. There’s nothing more that Rose wants than for her first lover to be her last.

My Thoughts:

A really adorable story about two people who find each other again years later. The story starts out when they see each other for the first time in twenty years. Rose and Jack were super sweet together, and it was wonderful to see them reunited after all that time. You could see how much they really care for each other despite the distances. And the steam... it was some nice steam.

My First, My Last is a quick read at 5300 words, but it is definitely worthwhile. Lacey Silks can turn a phrase and tell wonderful short stories.

Sharon helps her hot boss to match his ties to his wardrobe every morning. Straining to keep their working relationship professional, she keeps her distance from Frank until an accident at work forces them closer. An invitation to dinner, to thank Sharon for her help, stirs feelings she’s hidden from Frank for years. Fearing she could lose her job if their relationship flourishes, Sharon hesitates.

Frank’s feelings toward his secretary are tested. He can no longer resist Sharon, and makes his move. Will Sharon begin to work under him the way he’s dreamed for years?

My Thoughts:

Take two people who have worked together for five years, add a little spice, and voila! That's Bossy Request. Since they work together, Frank and Sharon worry what could happen if they were to get involved. Of course, after the years of buildup, it's impossible to resist for long. While there's only a little bit of romance that we get to see in this short story, it is hot stuff.

Lacey Silks has done it again! This one clocks in at about 5600 words, but it has enough to make it a very sweet read.

Every girl has a goody drawer.

Sex toy party hostess Liv Tanaka has a collection. Vibrating purple rabbits, cherry-flavored edible underwear, flavored oils… Hey, wearing a leather corset and stilettos (while selling dildos) pays the bills. Just don't tell her very conservative parents. Because if they discovered Liv's sex-toy-selling "Asian Elvira" alter ego, her parents would disown her.

So far, Liv's doing a bang-up job of keeping her two worlds separate…until Porter Benjamin shows up at her party. Tall and too-tasty-to-resist Porter, who works for her father. Porter, who wants Liv to host a party just for him.

And oh, she's tempted. But getting involved with Porter means mixing those two worlds that Liv desperately needs to keep separate. And now Liv's Naughty Toybox is starting to look a lot like Pandora's box….

My Thoughts:

I like quick cute romances, and this one was absolutely one of them. What's great about the Cosmo Red-Hot Reads is that there's the romance, and then there's the strong-willed woman. This book had it all!

Porter and Liv have amazing chemistry. I love how Liv is so empowered to be herself despite what her parents expect of her. Of course, she's terrified of what they would think if they knew anything about her life, her REAL life. I really liked how they brought culture and family into the story, how it can get tangled up and how it can blossom into understanding. Also? Porter can text me anytime... *swoons*

Boys and Toys was a super engaging story. I thought having a heroine with a different kind of upbringing and background was awesome. I look forward to checking out more by Cara Lockwood in the future!
